Tryout to be part of the world’s fastest growing sport: Roller Derby! The Hudson Valley Horrors are now recruiting for the 2013 season and we want YOU!
If you’re looking to challenge yourself and to be part of a team, roller derby will bring out the athlete in you! The Horrors skate within the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (W.F.T.D.A) which has been the driving force to legitimize Roller Derby as a sport.
“W.F.T.D.A promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability and sportswoman-ship.”
Athleticism and competitiveness is encouraged.

We are also looking for Referees and non-skating individuals to volunteer
(Male and female).
Although no experience is necessary, it is very helpful. You must be 18 or older to tryout.

The Hudson Valley Horrors and Man’s Ruin Roller Derby have joined forces in the spirit of giving to Support the Brittany Miller Foundation, a pediatric cancer fund.
The Brittany Miller Foundation is a charitable organization formed in the fall of 1995 to fill a great need in our community: providing financial assistance to families from the Hudson Valley who have children undergoing long-term medical treatment for cancer. Funds raised will not be used to pay for
the child’s actual medical care; rather, donations will be made to families for other “hidden” costs, including hotels, restaurants, tolls, gasoline and other miscellaneous expenses incurred by families who must take sick children to hospitals or other facilities for frequent treatments.
The Foundation raises funds and disperses the same to families from the New York counties of Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, and Pike County PA who have children diagnosed with cancer.

100% Of the Proceeds from this even will Benefit this Charitable Initiative.

The Horrors are hosting the first ever Derby Rally in the Valley and we want you to come out and play! It’s a round robin style open scrimmage in the open air!

The event is being held out our outdoor rink (sticky rubbery surface) so bring outdoor wheels, plenty of sunblock and some shades. There is a picnic area with BBQ’s so you can get your grill on. Please bring plenty of water, food and snacks to keep you rollin’. Come on down it’s free to skate.

There is also a pool on site for your cooling off enjoyment (with a concession stand inside the gates).  It is open 12:30 – 8pm so you can hit it up anytime during or after we skate.  Pool access is $5 so remember your swimsuit and a towel.

Derby Rally in the Valley Event Details
When: August 26th, 2012
Time: 10am- 2pm

Who: Any skater that has passed minimum skills and is scrimmage/bout eligible (you must have WFTDA or USARS insurance and be prepared to sign a waiver) and/or referees and NSO’s that want to help out and get experience.
Bring: A white/light and a black/dark shirt with your name and number on it.

Tomorrow the Horrors head down to Feasterville, PA for the 2012 East Coast Derby Extravaganza.

This tournament features over 1000 skaters, 120 leagues from all over the east and 49 bouts over the course of the 2 days.

The Hudson Valley Horrors WANT YOU to announce for us.

We are holding try-outs for Roller Derby Bout announcers. If you are fun, energetic and quick to pick up the nuances of the game then you are  what we seek. You will need to provide commentary, know the WFTDA rules and engage the audience. Make the audience love you, understand what is happening and talk up our sponsors. It’s that simple.

Please arrive promptly at 7:30.Be prepared to announce during actual derby play. You will be announcing during scrimmage time.
